From New Build to Dream Home: How Design and Styling Transform a Space

The combination of smart home design, carefully selected finishes, furniture, styling and personal touches transform a new build into a space that feels  lived in.
This luxury waterfront home in Sunshine Cove is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and interior styling can completely elevate a brand-new house.
We knew this home was something special when we handed over the keys. What we didn’t expect was just how dramatically it would transform once the owners made it their own.
The architecture, floorplan and product selections gave this home an incredible foundation. But it’s the personal touches, furniture choices, styling and the way the owners live in the space that has really brought it to life.

The Foundation Was Already There

Positioned in one of Sunshine Cove’s most prestigious waterfront locations, this custom-designed Vantage home was created to embrace relaxed coastal living from every angle.
The brief was anything but simple. The homeowners wanted to maximise the east-facing lakefront position, create spaces for family connection and entertaining, utilise every square metre of the block and deliver a home that felt luxurious.
Working closely with the clients throughout the design process, our in-house custom home architect and Vantage team carefully refined every detail to ensure the home responded to both the site and the way the family wanted to live. From capturing water views and natural light to creating seamless connections between indoor and outdoor spaces, every decision was made with purpose.
The result is a light-filled five-bedroom residence spanning two levels, complete with multiple living spaces, a stunning waterfront alfresco, wet-edge pool and uninterrupted water views.
Large windows frame the lake outlook, the open-plan living areas flow effortlessly outdoors and the kitchen sits at the heart of the home, creating a natural gathering place for family and friends. Every design decision was made to enhance the lifestyle the owners were chasing, resulting in a home that feels both highly functional and beautifully connected to its surroundings.

How Good Home Design Makes Styling Easier

One of the biggest misconceptions in home design is that expensive finishes alone create beautiful spaces. But as this home demonstrates, great styling starts long before the furniture arrives.
A functional floorplan, natural light, thoughtful product s elections and well-proportioned spaces make it much easier to create a home that feels warm, inviting and cohesive. When the foundations are right, furniture, artwork and décor naturally work together rather than feeling forced.
A big part of achieving that outcome was the collaboration between the homeowners and Vantage's experienced in-house interior design team. Working closely with the clients throughout the selection process, our designers helped curate a palette of finishes, colours and products that complemented both the architecture of the home and the lifestyle the owners wanted to create. From flooring and cabinetry through to stone surfaces, tapware and feature finishes, every selection was carefully considered to ensure the home felt timeless, cohesive and uniquely theirs.

The Kitchen Became the Heart of the Home

The kitchen was always designed to be a standout feature with the oversized island, integrated butler’s pantry, brushed gold tapware and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry - creates a space that is both practical and beautiful.
But once the owners introduced their own styling, the space has taken on an entirely different personality. Now it isn’t just a kitchen, its the place where morning coffees are made, conversations happen and guests naturally gather when visiting.

Spaces Designed to Be Lived In

The kitchen has become the true heart of the home.

The oversized main bedroom overlooking the water. The dual walk-in robes. The fully tiled bathrooms.

The upstairs living area has become a quiet retreat.

The waterfront dining area now frames family meals against a constantly changing lake backdrop.

The alfresco and pool zone have become an extension of the internal living space, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle that Sunshine Coast living is known for.

How to Personalise a New House Build

One of the best things about building a new home is the opportunity to personalise it right from the start and create a space that reflects your lifestyle, personality and the way you want to live.
Once the owners moved into this home, they took that personalisation to another level. Furniture, artwork, lighting, plants, soft furnishings and décor added warmth, character and personality, transforming a beautifully designed house into a home that feels uniquely theirs.
It's proof that thoughtful styling doesn’t need to be complicated. When the foundations are right and the design has been carefully considered from the outset, even subtle personal touches can have a significant impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make a new build feel like home?

Personal styling, furniture, artwork, lighting, plants and carefully chosen décor help transform a new build into a home. While a well-designed floorplan creates the foundation, it’s the personal touches that make a space feel lived in, welcoming and uniquely yours.

What is the most important part of home design?

A functional floorplan that suits your lifestyle is often more important than expensive finishes. The best homes are designed around how people live, ensuring spaces flow naturally, feel connected and work for everyday life.

How can I make my home look more luxurious?

Layered textures, quality materials, thoughtful lighting and cohesive styling can create a luxury feel without dramatically increasing your budget. Choosing a timeless colour palette and investing in a few key pieces often has a greater impact than filling a space with expensive products.
